Clear aligners are a great way to straighten your teeth and get a healthy, attractive smile. And while they're more convenient than braces, there are still some things that you’ll need to keep in mind during treatment.
For example, can you go on a night out with your clear aligners? Of course you can, but there are definitely some considerations you’ll need to think about if you choose to wear your aligners during a night out.
The short answer is “yes.” But there’s a catch. You should only go out at night and take off your clear aligners if your treatment is on track. If you get aligners from Dr. Jacqueline Rodriguez at Diversey Dental Studio, she will recommend that you wear them for at least 20 hours per day, and ideally for 22+ hours per day.
So if your treatment is going well and you want to take your aligners out for a night on the town, go ahead. But if you’re not very diligent about wearing them, it’s probably not a very good idea. The longer you avoid wearing your aligners, the longer your treatment will take.
As mentioned, the standard recommendation is to wear your aligners for 20 hours per day. So ideally, you wouldn’t have your aligners out for more than four hours. But if you end up staying out late, there shouldn’t be any harm done. Just make sure to brush your teeth and put your aligners back in before you go to sleep.
You can, if you want! However, you’ll need to make sure that you don’t lose them. You should take your aligners out when you eat or drink, so you may be popping them in and out of your mouth quite a bit during a night out.
If you’re good about putting your aligners in their carrying case and you won’t lose them, you can definitely bring them with you. But if you think that you may party a bit too hard and lose track of them, leave them at home. After all, losing a set of aligners could set your treatment back by days or even weeks.
If you decide not to leave your aligners at home, here are a few tips to make things easier when you go out:
